Uncle Sam’s Amusement presents:

The Electromagnetic Frontier These EMF maps were created by Dow Harris during his journey along the Derailed Ride, somewhere in the Western Hemisphere between Savannah, GA and the Panama Canal. They represent ‘glimpses’ of a zone known as ‘The Electromagnetic Frontier.’ The Electromagnetic Frontier is a cutting- edge psychic space beyond the confines of Uncle Sam’s Amusement (a metaphor for the crasser and more materialistic characteristics of USA) and the memes of contemporary American media. EMF is also an acronym for ‘Electromagnetic Field’ and when used as such it refers to a spectrum of light, only a tiny bit of which is actually visible to the naked eye. Some studies suggest that human brain space or consciousness is an EMF. More succinctly, whether referring to field or frontier, EMF is the free-roving unconditioned imagination of the artist. Since much of the physical geography of planet Earth has already been settled or claimed and effective space travel is still many years from realization, the current frontier where bold explorers are molding new legends are inner realms and other dimensions. These pastels represent an attempt to chart these invisible portals. Each one is a color-filled alchemical operation that combines a variety of principles that ultimately leads towards a visual balancing act. They are postmodern mandalas that celebrate the magical and living imagination. Enjoy your journey!
