Statement
Art has defined Bill Sabatini throughout his life. A Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native, Bill moved to Albuquerque in 1972 to pursue a Master of Architecture degree at the University of New Mexico. He recently retired after over 40 successful years as an architect and is now realizing a life long dream creating fine art in his own studio. Free of the rigor and practical constraints of architecture. Bill enjoys making art with no rules and no expectations other than his own.
Recognized for design excellence in architecture, his work was characterized by simple geometry, strong form and the important relationship of interior and exterior space. Using organizing grids he found success when designs violated the grid with contrasting angular shapes, forms and curves. So it is with his art. He is inspired and influenced by the pure light, strong form, varied fixtures, vibrant color and most importantly. by the dramatic contrasts typical of the Southwestern high desert landscape. We all routinely experience those contrasts--blue and orange skies, green and red earth, yellow vegetation and purple shadows to name only a few. With a passion for drawing, he interjects line as a means to create movement and direction but also as a contrast in scale to simple planes and forms. Never afraid of color he revels in its ability to elicit emotion. He strives to create simple, memorable and emotionally charged imagery. His work continues to evolve.
Bill Sabatini is on a journey discovering the nuances of art, but just as important, he is meeting new people and making new friends along the way.
