Statement

Art and creativity are the foundation and cornerstone of the world we live in. Art, in virtually every form has had a major influence on me throughout my entire life. From my earliest memories of music, drawing, etc. I have further explored these pursuits intermittently with the work and career of everyday life. As a young child, I intuitively took pencil and paper and simple drawings evolved into slightly more involved sketches of ocean and sailing ship scenes. Basic art instruction was received in high school art class for four years but no other advanced training in college or an art school was received. Originally from Birmingham and growing up in Jefferson County, Alabama I have lived in a few other states and traveled extensively around the rest of the country. Residing in Dayton, Ohio at the time of the 9/11 attacks I soon afterward returned to Alabama. I currently live in Shelby County, Alabama and can be found in the Montgomery area much of the time. My years away from Alabama, I attempted to establish the painting hobby off and on but never had the time necessary to engage in it properly.
In recent years I became a widower and stepped into an imposed retirement due to some health issues and the subsequent Covid shutdown. For the past few years I decided to spend my time writing and the last couple of years I gravitated back to painting again. With the right combination of available time and a studio environment I now am able to experiment and become a much more engaged self-taught painter. My focus has returned to painting and primarily that of peaceful and serene images of scenery. Sunsets, sunrises, landscapes, and seascapes have all been subjects I have focused on with the goal of creating that special moment in time that reminds us of our own peaceful and introspective places. The process of creating an image in my mind and bringing it to life on the canvas has been a therapeutic and healing venture for me physically and mentally as well. I sincerely hope my work will bring a small moment of peaceful calm ad enjoyment to someone.
